Tuvok’s Stress Dream In Star Trek: Voyager Season 4’s “Waking Moments” Made No Sense

As a vulcan, Tuvok wouldn’t actually be embarrassed by his dream

The beginning of " Waking Moments " showed many of the crew ’s dreams , which ranged from hilarious to downright terrifying . One of the strange ones was Tuvok ’s , during which he showed up for his duty transmutation on the bridge circuit completely nude . This type of dreaming is likely intimate to many people , and a mutual accent dream for humans , but sinceTuvok was a Vulcan , make him get it made no gumption . As a altogether different species , and a notoriously unemotional one , Tuvok would almost sure enough not have feel embarrassmentor even felt the same way about nakedness as humans .

The scene still comes off in the installment like Tuvok is chagrined to be naked , which ultimately undercut its credibility .

Tim Russ agree with these ideas , stating in an audience withThe Official Star Trek : Voyager Magazine , issue 17 , that he had essay to find a rationalization for the scene by playing Tuvok ’s discomfort with his openness around the fact that he had broken communications protocol by not wear a uniform . While Russ ’s intention in this regard were sound , the view still come off in the episode like Tuvok is abashed to be naked , which in the end undercuts its credibility . However , Voyager ’s creative squad choosing to boast Tuvok as the subject of the stress dream was in some ways a chic choice .

Why Star Trek: Voyager Chose Tuvok For “Waking Moments” Most Hilarious Dream Anyway

Voyager’s writers knew that Tuvok would still be a great choice for the scene

Although Tuvok ’s embarrassment was not in keeping with his Vulcan nature , the scene in " Waking Moments " needed him to heighten its drollery . Using Tuvok as the straight man only help the dream be even comic , especially the part where the entire nosepiece crew laugh at Tuvokafter he ill-treat out of the turbolift . Likewise , the scene facilitated another great minute between Tuvok andCaptain Janeway ( Kate Mulgrew)where Tuvok awkwardly set about to excuse his dreaming to Janeway without go into detail about the fact that he had been au naturel .

In contrast to Tuvok , Captain Janeway ’s dream at the beginning of " Waking Moments " was terrifying , featuring her rule the decay bodies of several work party appendage in the raft hall . The dream represent Janeway ’s ongoing fears about keep her crew safe in the Delta Quadrant .

Voyager ’s author undoubtedly knew that using Tuvok for that special stress dream was the funniest choice they could make when assigning fit to the show ’s core character . It ’s not surprising then that they chose Tuvok to have the dream he did , andthe fact that Tim Russ was cognisant of the inaccuracies and set about to determine a justification for them shows how much he cared about Tuvok as a character . Still , while theStar Trek : Voyagerscene may be shady , it does n’t contain up logically under scrutiny .
