Summary
Horror sequelshave always been notoriously difficult to get right , but looking back on some sequel years later , I ’m often shock by how well some of them hold up . Despite sure dealership being criticized for remain indefinitely , when I took the clock time to truly look at individual entries and considered them on their own merits alone , I was systematically surprised by how many hidden gem were way better than I commemorate . Certain sequels get a big report that , in hindsight , merit to get a circle more love .
In my opinion , franchise films have often been below the belt compared to the originals , and despite rehashing many of the same story beats as the first film , they still had a lot to declare oneself . Other sequels , likeHalloween III , were below the belt judge for departing too much from the antecedently established taradiddle complex body part , and it is only now , looking back , that I can appreciate how well the movie worked as agreat stand - alone repugnance movieviewing experience . For many reason , lots of horror sequel were way better than I remembered .
15Jaws 2 (1978)
Directed by Jeannot Szwarc
The firstJawsmovie was a watershed second in cinematic story that help usher in the era of the summertime megahit and found Steven Spielberg as a major Hollywood figure . With this reputation behind it , I always dismissedtheJawssequelsas unnecessary , and that ’s why I was pleasantly surprised by how wellJaws 2held up . While it ’s true thatJaws 2can be criticized for retread much of the same secret plan points as the first film , I believe it still bear out as an effective thriller with nifty performances , impressive particular effects , and an iconic score by John Williams .

I ’ve always been a big fan of music director David Cronenberg ’s work , so I was sceptical about the viability of a sequel to his acclaimed sci - fi remake , The Fly . Without Cronenberg or its star , Jeff Goldblum , returning , I always viewedThe Fly IIas an unneeded follow - up that felt like it should n’t have been made . However , returning toThe Fly IImany year later on , I get word a captivating film just as repulsive , horrific , and purely entertaining as Creonberg ’s version . Paranormal Activity : The Markedexpanded the franchise ’s traditional knowledge by highlighting the witches ’ coven as a dark comportment with untold influence . As the only entry in theHalloweenseries that did not boast the serial grampus Michael Myers , I always consideredHalloween deuce-ace : time of year of the Witchto be an anomalousness within the series . Because of this , it ’s easy to disregardHalloween III , especially as it imbue the serial with aspects of witchcraft and scientific discipline fabrication elements . The Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacrewas a unambiguously camp horror film that pay homage to the franchise ’s bequest while adding something new to it .
