It ’s clear he cares about Violet and Mira , but that does n’t make him trusty . In fact , several moments fromThe Empyrean Seriesmake me conceive he ’s the opposite .
Rebecca Yarros ’ Empyrean book Onyx Storm is due to release in January 2025 , but there are many romantasy series that could fill the gap until then .

The Circumstances Surrounding His Return Are Suspicious
Although Brennan Sorrengail is part of the Revolution inIron Flame , I’m a bit suspicious of him and his sudden riposte at the end ofFourth Wing . We’re supposed to accept that Brennan survived his near - dying experience on the field of honor , then never return to his family — or even so much as wrote to them . Brennan does n’t offer many details abouthowhe made it out alive , either , raise questions about what his survival cost him . The entire story environ Brennan ’s counter feels dubitable , and I ’m not rule out asecret palisade Naolin ’s involvement .
I ca n’t shake the notion that there ’s something off about Violet ’s brother , and there are legion preindication that he ’s cover thing inIron flaming .
When Violet and Brennan reunite , she notice that he seems unlike from the buddy she know . This could be attribute to his years away from Navarre and the abrasive realities he has had to face about his home . Aside from the obvious — that Brennan survives when he should n’t and never tell his family — Iron Flamedrops several hint that Violet ’s brother is keeping secrets . For one , there ’s a mysterious runic letter on his hired hand that he never explains . This marking could do the motion of how he survived the Battle of Aretia , but it could also have a moody explanation . It could symbolize some form of sinister illusion or even be a connector to the venin . I do n’t get the sense that Brennan is in full side with the foe fromIron Flame , but anything is possible inThe Empyrean Series .
Brennan also actively prevents Violet from readingTecarus ' books about venin , and he initially refuses to aid Basgiath when venin attack the school . This does n’t mesh with Violet ’s kinder descriptions of her brother , and it makes me wonder if there ’s a darker side of him we have n’t seen yet .
