It was attacked during theGreat Sith War , lead to its abandonment and a former cataclysm turning the lavish major planet to ruin . But most importantly , during its heyday , Ossus was a center of knowledge for the much more decentralised Jedi Order of theOld Republic era .

This caused Ossus to be abandoned for thousand of years , up until the period right away after the Yuuzhan Vong War . During this reconstructive memory menstruation , Luke Skywalker reclaim the planet for the Jedi , build a novel temple there for his New Jedi Order . Luke Skywalker’s Canon Jedi Order Was Based On Ossus For This Reason

Not Yavin 4, Not Coruscant

In Legends , Ossus is a planet with a significant Jedi story , and has been slow restored to that position in canon . This has involved RPG supplements , but also marry - in cloth forStar warfare : The Rise of Skywalker , which state that Luke catch some of the Sacred Jedi Texts from Ossus in ruined and give up library . Most significantly , however , Luke Skywalker ’s Jedi Temple is not where it was first located in Legends .

In Legends , Luke take up vantage of the already built temples on Yavin 4 , where theRebel Alliancewas based during the Battle of Yavin , for his training grounds . This set aside for a head start to the Order not seen in canon . Shockingly , canon story did not choose this same placement , despite its acquaintance and marketability , instead choosing a more dark planet like Ossusthat had even more Jedi history from the oldStar WarsExpanded Universe .
