Summary
Festival of the Living Deadis a apparitional continuation to George A. Romero’sNight of the Living Dead , and I ’m here for it . The Soska Sisters , Jen and Sylvia Soska , who also sometimes go by the name , " The Twisted Twins " , have been lead motion picture together for years . Their project are hard set in the horror genre , with quite a little of gore to satisfy the most ardent horror fans . Their piece of work inThe ABCs of Death 2andRabidis what initially drew me to them , but with 2024’sFestival of the Living , I recollect they ’re at last come in into their own .
Festival of the Living Deadis a spiritual sequel , or familiar small-arm , tothe 1968 horror masterpiece , Night of the Living Dead . InFestival , Ash ( Ashley Moore ) and Iris ( Camren Bicondova ) are two booster who subsist in a world where the events ofNOTLDare well known by all , and zombie are always a theory . Ash is even the teenaged granddaughter of Duane Jones ' character , Ben , fromNight . Iris and Ash go to a zombie - revolutionize music fete where the dead once again rise , andthe stripling and their friends must fight to subsist the night .
Zombies movies hold up or die by their conclusion , as is the case with these amazing cliffhanger and undead flatlines .
Why Festival Of The Living Dead Is The Perfect Spiritual Sequel To The George A. Romero Classic
Festival Is A Loving Homage To The Original Zombie Movie
The timeline of theNight of the Living Deaduniverseis already wildly complicated , and I am never sure if a film is in theReturn of the Living Deadcontinuity or Romero ’s railway line . And then , where do the remakes go on the nose ? So , ifFestival of the Living Deadwants to call itself a spiritual sequel toNight , then I say make it an official sequel . Who says no ? Even if the Soska Sisters never wantedFestivalto be a unmediated sequel toNight , it ’s such a love varsity letter to the original , you have to admire their admiration .
But in horror movie remakes ? Give me recall , homages , reference , and Easter eggs .
Is n’t that one of the best reasons to squander horror remakes and sequels ( which are sometimes one and the same in our hallowed genre ) ? That they cue us of those scares and memories of enjoying the original ? I perfectly lie with new horror films as well . It ’s to new repulsion I turn for legitimate frights , interesting new direction , and thing I have n’t see before . Butin horror motion-picture show remakes ? Give me callbacks , homages , references , and Easter testis . It ’s what piddle repulsion remake so personal and whyFestival of the Living Deadworks so well as a sequel .
Festival Of The Living Dead Is Hands Down My Favorite Soska Sisters Movie
Festival Features The Twisted Twins Doing Their Best Work
The Soska Sisters have dabbled in horror film remakes and sequel before , withSee No Evil 2andRabid . They ’ve also made small trunks in celebrated horror anthologies likeABCs of Death 2 . All the while , they ’ve made wad of original films , likeVendettaandAmerican Mary . However , Festival of the Living Deadis far and away the babe ' best film . It ’s obvious to me that the only thing cumber these two directors is budget , which are in all probability not well-fixed to get as young independent filmmakers work out of Canada .

Even with the lackluster budget , Festival of the Living Deadmanages some great Albert Gore Jr. , scares , and excellent character beat that actually made me a small loll around when citizenry were eat by zombies , a coup for even the better zombi movies . Every clip the Soska Sisters make a flick , they get more confident , more observational , and more interesting as filmmakers . I ca n’t wait to see what The Twisted Twins have in store .
