Wilson Cruz Missed Filming Star Trek: Discovery’s Finale Epilogue

“Through the magic of television and special effects, Culber was there, but I was not.”

Screen Rant : Wilson , congratulation on five amazing seasons ofStar Trek : Discovery . I want to jump by asking , is it true that you overleap out on film the finale epilog because you were filmingMother of the Bride ?

Wilson Cruz : Wilson Cruz : True story . Yeah , because we did n’t feel out that we were delete until I had already booked that job , and was actually nonplus quick to go . And it was impossible for me to wing back from Thailand to Toronto and germinate that and then go back . And it just did n’t work schedule sassy for either production . So , through the magic of idiot box and special effects , Culber was there , but I was not .

Screen Rant : I had no idea . I was completely fooled , I have to say .

Wilson Cruz : Good , good , good . I ’m so happy it find . Because for a while there , I did n’t roll in the hay if he was going to make it in at all , which was unbelievably dishearten to me . So I ’m so thankful that he was .

Wilson Cruz’s Favorite Star Trek: Discovery Memories

“I also loved season 3 and who he became, really stepping into himself.”

Screen Rant : Do you have a particular time of year among the five that stands out as your favorite , or do you love all five kids the same ?

Wilson Cruz : I jazz them all for very different reasons . time of year two is really particular to me , in the main because I was in my own story . So the entire season was about Anson and Ethan coming on and bringing that story , and dealing with the A.I. , and eventually act 900 years in the time to come . Whereas , meanwhile , in med embayment , Hugh Culber is just attempt to figure out how it is that he ’s alive again . And what materialize and who he is now , and what this mean for his life . And we really get to see him plow with the ramifications of demise and becoming and go again . get by with how it all happened .

We never … we do n’t really get to see that . When someone die and comes back . I roll in the hay that chance . That interrogation , what does it mean ? What does it feel like if you have died and come back ? What interrogative does that fetch up ? Who are you ? Who do you want to be now that this thing has happened ? Those interrogative fascinate me , so I enjoyed that . I also loved season 3 and who he became , really stepping into himself , and this new confidence that he had . This ability to really ill-treat into his wizard now that we ’ve jumped 900 years into the future . And he ’s accepted his married man again and all of that . I mean , season five , I was given more than I had ever been give to do , and challenge in ways that I had never been challenged before . And to be able-bodied to step up and deliver a carrying out that I ’m fabulously proud of . So I guess I do have sex them all .

Wilson Cruz On Working With David Ajala And Culber’s Friendship With Book

Screen Rant : I can not get over how beautifulCulber ’s friendly relationship with Bookwas in season 5 . recount us a small bit about lick with David . And also , was that existent mofongo you guys feed ?

Wilson Cruz : It was fairly close . It was very , very close . It was very , very good , by the agency , which is why we ’re eating it during the scene so much . I was like , ' Oh , I have to address ? ' But one of my most satisfying things about season five was working with the incomparable David Ajala , who made it gentle . I ’ve always know working with him .

Back in season four , when we had our first counselling session , that is one of my favorite storylines . To see this straightforward black man and this gay Latino man shackle over their relationships , over their study , over ism , is incredibly substantial . And just work out with him is so easy . It was always surprising , it ’s always changing , and it ’s always fun . So , I mean , I ca n’t say enough about it .

Wilson Cruz : That was as much about ego - discovery as it was discovering the existence . That it was so much about who we are , and how we work is just as exciting to discover as a new planet . discover you ’re adequate to of more than you even live you were capable of . The way we challenge ourselves and ill-use up to challenge . How we deal with dashing hopes . How we relate to others . How we connect , or not . All of that . The show is really about that . It ’s about connector on every single level , from the individual out to the world .
